March 22 two birds on nest no date for beginning of incubation. May 7 three eggs in nest

The pair is still returning to the nest and spending time there on and off. Perhaps the nest could be raised next season, it is quite low to the water now, which might have contributed to the disappearance of the eggs

A week ago I noticed that the female had stopped incubating, but the birds are still visiting the nest. During inspection I saw that the eggs (there were two) have gone. This is the third year in a row that this nest has had problems. The nest is in close proximity to clam beds and there is often human activity near by. What could have happened to the eggs?
