The C.G. ATON had been wiped clean of all nest material sometime since last July, but yesterday 2 ospreys showed on on the tower for the first time this year.
Today, one day later, nest material sticks are now showing on the tower platform. they weren't there yesterday.
This isn't a nest yet, but it sure is a good start!
Nest Lat/Lon updated - the old position was off by 110 yards. In March 2017, this nest was unoccupied.
Nest was observed on 2/13/17, 2/15/17, 2/18/17, 2/23/17 and 3/2/17 looking for eagle activity. No eagles or ospreys were observed in the area on any of those days.
In 2005 nest was on an abandoned crane. In 2009 Gerdeau Ameristeel erected a platform & relocated the nest. In 2012 the osprey built a nest on a light tower.
Forgot to provide updates. Chicks hung out visiting nest in August. Saw an adult there the first week of September. Nest is now vacant.
Until next year!!!!
I've been watching this nest everyday on my commute on NJ Transit train! Dad is a good fisherman...chicks looking good. They have been flapping their wings getting ready to fledge.
