Nesting Diaries

Adult male disappeared weeks ago. Adult female last observed on September 10. Juvenile last observed in the morning of September 11. Bon Voyage!! I hope they all circumvent or otherwise avoid the hurricanes and storms south of here!

Last week our Ospreys adorned the nest with a small blue plastic flag that was attached to a white stick about a foot long. They moved it to several locations within the nest. For most of one day it stood upright, fluttering in the wind. I hope Baby Osprey enjoyed the sight, as did we humans.

First bird arrived on March 22, 2017.

Long cold and wet weather periods in April and early May may have had the birds confused, as egg laying didn't occur until late May.

Mr. and Mrs. O successfully raised and fledged three chicks this year. Though they are long gone south, and sorely missed, a Bald Eagle occasionally uses their nesting platform as a dining table. Can't wait for the return of the O's next March!

On March 27, 2015, Mr. O. arrived and reunited with his Mrs.

Mrs. O arrived at our platform on March 19. On March 20, she hunkered down in the middle of a snowstorm, as seen in photo.
