Nesting Diaries
Noted that on 2/25/2017 parents feeding a hatchling.
Difficult to tell when the eggs were laid. Nest is high and I am low. She has been down on the nest for a little over a week.
Two birds showed up in Late November. Were serious about rebuilding first of December. Trees had overgrown the nest and we had them trimmed back before the Ospreys arrived
On 4/10/2016 both chicks appeared to be doing well. (pic shows both adults and two chicks). On or about 4/24 only one chick appeared active. The second chick was found on the ground under the nest the next day badly de-composed. The surviving chick is flying well and returns to the nest daily, but overnights elsewhere.
Both adults and both chicks. Looks to be getting big enough to try their wings. See Photo.
January was very wet and cold. Not sure of laying or hatching dates. Currently 2 chicks and on schedule considering the time of year. See photo.
The pair arrived in mid December. Now in mid January are on the eggs.
The second fledgling left the nest in late April. The nest remained un-occupied since. Two Ospreys have been observed nearby and just waiting for more activity.
The first baby fledged on 2/14/2015, pic included. Unfortunately we found this fledgling badly injured by the nest earlier today. He died shortly after. We believe he was scared by tree trimming to close to the nest. FWC and CROW were notified.
For about the last week we have had two visible babies. From the size I would expect they hatched about a week or a little more ago.
On or about Jan10, 2015 a pair appeared to take over the nest for breeding. About the 16th one was down in the nest incubating the eggs. The male brings fish for the family dinners.
Live on the canal next to the nest. Two osprey's, probably last years chicks, are hanging around. Will watch throughout the year. Picture was taken this AM, 11/24/2014.
