Nest is gone again, and a rounded structure has been affixed where the nest had been, obviously to prevent the birds from constructing another nest. Both birds are perched on nearby utility structures.
Before today, we had seen both birds perching on the utility structure and even mating in a nearby field, but no nest on the usual nest site. Today there is a nest, and both birds are on it. A neighbor told us that the birds have been trying to build a nest, but the utility company keeps knocking it down (the utility structures are scheduled for replacement).
Birds observed chasing away an intruder (another osprey) that had landed on the nest. They were also observed eating and mating on a nearby utility structure.
Nest rebuilding continues. One osprey observed on nest rearranging sticks. Second osprey landed on nest, stayed for a couple of minutes, then flew away.
After high winds on 4/8/2016, nest has been blown down again. One osprey observed bringing sticks to the site to attempt a second rebuilding. Weather conditions include rain mixed with snow and gusting winds.
The ospreys are rebuilding the nest. One bird was on the nest, while the other ate a fish on a nearby utility cross pole. The bird from the nest flew over to the bird on the utility pole and sat there for a couple of minutes. Then that bird flew off, found a stick and brought it back to the nest.
One bird seated on nest upon arrival, and another arrived several minutes later and covered the first bird (mating behavior?). Second bird then flew off. Nest is stable and clean-appearing.
