seeing incubating behavior from the new female today, new male was on snag farther out from the nest than the prior male would perch. also this male doesnt bring trash to the nest like last seasons pair always did, sure hope the original pair has found a suitable home.
This is the somewhat famous nest referred to as HG or Holland Glade. The original pair has quite a history. summer 2017 I begged a sign company to use their bucket truck to rescue their one (of 2) chick caught in baling twine, and again in 2019 I used another sign companies bucket truck to attempt to rescue the adult female who was also caught in baling twine. She broke free and flew off so I cleaned out the nest. She remained at the nest into the fall and had an injured foot, but miraculously she was able to catch fish with just one foot. We waited to see if she would return this spring and I saw her at the nest on 3-21-20 along with her mate. In the next 2 weeks they were challenged for the nest site and as of today I see the challengers are holding down the nest. This new female has a magnificent full dark necklace and her mate has an obvious though light necklace. We hope the original female who recovered from her tendon injury comes back but its not looking likely. We hope this new male is not so fond of baling twine and trash.
Female (much whiter underside) observed in nesting position within the nest. Male in nearby tree observing. Two pair of Osprey often seen fishing and flying over our pond. Another neighbor is reporting on the nest in her backyard.
Today I observed the female sitting on the nest, with the male perched nearby. This is the 1st observation of both male and female at the next.
Uncertain as to egg laying at this time, seems too early.
First spotted osprey returning to area 3/23/18.
Observed female flying/hunting over pond in Canal Point 3/25 and 3/26. Saw female perched on old nest platform at Little League field 3/29. Not certain she is nesting yet.
Observed the adult osprey crouching over her nest, no longer sitting down in it. Both adults have been seen fishing in a nearby pond and taking their "catches" back to the nest. Appear to be feeding their hatchlings.
Not certain when eggs were actually laid. Observed the flat back in early May. Observed adults carrying food/fish back to the nest on July 12. Continued to hear nestlings in the next throughout July and again on July 30th. By August 8th the fledglings were flying from the nest. Throughout August observed them flying over our pond and sometimes diving for fish. On September 2nd, nest seemed empty.
