well unfortunately the female was down apparently incubating when i passed by in my boat, her mate was on his favorite tree across the creek near the pool at Solitudes community. Another osprey flew over head and male chased then came back to the nest. the male, as is often the case, is not a skittish but the female got up off eggs when our boat passed and i watched her do it when the next boat came by. this is not even a busy time yet on the creek. I dont see this pair incubating to hatching and certainly not to fledgling stage. but i could be wrong.
2 on nest today , nest is very big, i am afraid they will lay eggs, start incubating and then the resort people will arrive and flush them off the nest as its too close to water traffic.
both osprey on nest, female very stressed if boat goes by, she flies off nest and perches across the creek in a tall tree. male is not bothered and brings nest material and fixes nest with boat passing by. I do not believe she will be able to incubate eggs this season if she is very disturbed by human activity as the marsh where this platform is located is very small and the waters around it are popular with kayakers, crabbers, jet skiis and boaters.
female on platform today with lots of nest material, did not see mate, cant be sure this osprey belongs here or on next platform up the creek that had goose on their nest until recently,
no nest material this season, no activity seen and with the new Schell Bros community, (ironically called "Solitude") building a large pool, BBQ area and Tiki Bar directly across the waterway where they cut down a great blue heron rookery and left no marsh buffer I doubt any birds will nest here ever again. ugh
geese are once again nesting on this platform. 3 platforms at the upper end of White Creek, including this one, have geese nesting this season. the geese population is increasing in that area where the creek is very narrow and little disturbance early in the season.disappointing but people do enjoy seeing all the goslings.
end of season- occasional looky lous on the platform but simply too much jet ski and boat traffic too close for any new ospreys pairs to tolerate. we did place a new predator guard on the pole for next seasons geese to safely raise some goslings.
goose off the nest again. there is quite a bit of eagle activity lately but also the pole of this platform no longer has the predator guard, must have blown off in the april nor'easter
goose off the nest and predator guard missing from platform. I do not think there are goslings so perhaps the wind took the guard and a coon took the eggs, just a wild guess
There is now a developer creating a large community for Schell Bros on the land directly across the narrow creek and developer cut down the great blue heron rookery trees across from this platform. There will be much disturbance here in the future.
Nothing left on the nest, not even goose feathers. No osprey takers again this season. The platform is on a point on a creek with increasing human activity. It is best no osprey claim it.
Well as in seasons past this platform attracts a pair of geese. They have been incubating eggs and today they must have hatched some goslings because the nest is empty with just some nesting feathers blowing around. Will have to get the boat nearby to see how many goslings she hatched:)
