thought i would see whats happening at this absolutely crazy platform location and happy to report absolutely nuttin"...no osprey to be seen or heard but many golf carts parked right at the nest site.
been doing some drive-bys the past few days and see or hear no signs of any osprey or added nest material on the platform. the nest material showing is clearly the large starter nest material the builder placed on the platform at the time of construction.
I was told there was a pair at this platform but I have checked a number of times and see no signs of any new nest building or sounds of osprey. osprey will fish the ponds at the golf course and may be hanging on the platform when there is a break in the golf action but when I observe the golf carts are at the nest site every few minutes. I sure hope no ospr even consider this nest location!
small blessing- no signs of any osprey considering this ridiculously placed platform. the starter nest still looks the same, no added nest material and no birds heard today
end of season: this shockingly poor placement of an osprey platform continues to boggle the mind of any bird watcher...no osprey activity seen this entire season. the nest material is a starter nest placed by the platform construction crew. I hope no unsuspecting osprey pair attempts to nest on this platform EVER.
checked on this GOLF COURSE platform today. no activity and no nest material added to the starter nest the platform builder placed in the nest to entice a pair to use this brand new platform. sad and a waste of good lumber.
This is quite possibly the worst osprey platform location I have ever seen. I am praying no osprey get anywhere close to this nest site. I watched golfers at the nest area today and it was a very warm and busy day out on the course. The platform was placed in the sand trap at Kodiak 9 hole course, hole #4. The manager told me that there was "nest material in the nest" meaning it is being used. Actually the person who installed the nest placed a starter nest in the platform to entice birds so this is misleading to golfers and yet another case of human beings selfish intent to display wildlife like trophies. argh!!! no osprey anywhere in sight thank GOD.
Bummer! Bear trap community wanted an osprey platform on their property and they got one right in between 3 tee's on the back nine of the golf course. this has to be one of the worst place I have ever seen an osprey platform and I have seen some terrible locations. now I haven't actually stood at the platform but I can drive very close to it by visiting the housing community just behind the golf course. The story is that some osprey like to hang out in the trees near where the platform was placed. there are 2 established nests within less than a 1/2 mile from this golf course so it is possible the osprey are just visiting the nice ponds and won't try to raise a family in this horrible location. people don't actually care what happens to chicks, they just want to say they have an osprey nest, and money gets one in this ridiculous location. i will monitor it and see how it works out.
