No adult osprey observed on either channel marker. Nest on marker 13 has fallen apart. Nest on marker 14 is still in tact, but without any signs of nestlings.
Single adult osprey seen on channel marker 14. No nestlings present, and the adult osprey did not vocalize when I approached nest by kayak. LIkely failed nest.
Observations at around 7 am. Female osprey seen on Nest 14. She departed for a short time and returned with a fish. She appeared to be looking into nest, but no nestlings observed. Male seen sitting briefly on the remains of Nest 13.
Three osprey sighted in the vicinity of the two nests. However, nest 13 (where incubation behavior had been noted 5 days ago) was unoccupied for the duration of the observation (approximately 7:30 am to 9:00 am). The only exception was when a small black bird (possibly a crow) landed on the nest and one of the osprey from nest 14 flew over and chased the crow away (see photos). After that two of the three osprey had some sort of confrontation over nest 14. (see photos)
One osprey observed displaying incubation initiation behavior in nest 13 (sitting with flat back). Three other osprey observed in flight, one with fish in talons. Weather conditions overcast with drizzle.
Pairs observed on both nests between 7 am and 9 am. Both male and females from both nests observed departing the nest and returning with branches to build up nest.
