Photos of this nest
Adult osprey hanging out on nest markers 13 and 14. Both nests in disrepair.
No adult osprey observed on either channel marker. Nest on marker 13 has fallen apart. Nest on marker 14 is still in tact, but without any signs of nestlings.
Single adult osprey seen on channel marker 14. No nestlings present, and the adult osprey did not vocalize when I approached nest by kayak. LIkely failed nest.
Two adult osprey seen around channel marker 14, no nestlings observed.
Observations around 8 am. Male osprey seen on channel marker 13 (failed nest). Female seen on channel marker 14. No nestlings observed.
Observations at around 7 am. Female osprey seen on Nest 14. She departed for a short time and returned with a fish. She appeared to be looking into nest, but no nestlings observed. Male seen sitting briefly on the remains of Nest 13.
Two osprey in Nest 14.
Two osprey in Nest 14. Three other osprey observed just south of the airport diving into the water.
Two osprey seen sitting in Nest 14. Two other osprey observed flying in the vicinity. Nest 13 in a state of disrepair.
Raining this AM. Nest 14 occupied by a single osprey sitting low in the nest. Nest 13 still unoccupied.
Nest 14 still occupied by 2 osprey. Two other other osprey seen flying around in the distance. Nest on channel marker 13 remains abandoned.
Observed nests from approximately 6:45 am to 7:20 am. Only nest 14 occupied by two osprey. Nest on channel marker 13 appears to be abandoned.
Three osprey sighted in the vicinity of the two nests. However, nest 13 (where incubation behavior had been noted 5 days ago) was unoccupied for the duration of the observation (approximately 7:30 am to 9:00 am). The only exception was when a small black bird (possibly a crow) landed on the nest and one of the osprey from nest 14 flew over and chased the crow away (see photos). After that two of the three osprey had some sort of confrontation over nest 14. (see photos)
One osprey observed displaying incubation initiation behavior in nest 13 (sitting with flat back). Three other osprey observed in flight, one with fish in talons. Weather conditions overcast with drizzle.
Both pairs sighted at 11 am. One osprey from second nest seen fishing along National Airport side of water.
Pairs observed on both nests between 7 am and 9 am. Both male and females from both nests observed departing the nest and returning with branches to build up nest.
