Nesting Diaries
Sadly, one of the babies was dead on our lower lawn this morning....looks like it had been there for several hours, so either I missed it yesterday or it happened during the night, It fell or was dropped onto the center of our property. Still had down, no flight feathers/tail feathers present. I’ll post a photo when I download them from my camera.
1st Osprey arrived today! Bald Eagle was on the tree. Got chased off by the Osprey! #teamosprey
First opportunity to view nest in person. Heard 1 and saw the other of the pair. Definitely two on the nest.
No sign of activity at this time. Nest somewhat deteriorated from hard winter snow and wind.
One of the parents brought in a good sized flounder for the family's breakfast.
Interesting activity at the nest. 4 adult osprey at one time. Mama on the nest, but clearly saw 3 additional adults around the next. Definitely some alarm calls as well.
UPDATE: Nest is still active!! ........................................
A pair of bald eagles had been approaching the nest as well as other osprey. Twice saw osprey with something fuzzy in it's clutches. Once with three osprey in view near the nest, second with the pair of eagles and pair of osprey wheeling nearby - lots of cries both from the osprey and the eagles.... ...first thought was a squirrel, but have not seen any activity in the last 24 hours. :-(
The bald eagles continue in the area and are seen every couple of days. The Osprey pair ran them off this morning about 6am after they approached too near to the nest,
Both osprey observed at nest and hunting. 2 bald eagles in the vicinity for several hours yesterday as well.
4 osprey observed at nest. one pair flew off after a tustle at the nest. Then the other pair flew off. Same behavior observed by Turtleguy at a nest in Tacoma. Is this the same foursome? Did get some pictures of the second pair that seems to have taken up residency now.
We observed this nest when viewing/inspecting the property for purchase. The nest is on a pine tree on the neighboring unoccupied property. Fledglings were flying with one of the parents and one was perched on the dock of the property address listed.
