Nesting Diaries

08/21/2019 by Steph
Upon first finding this nest I discovered that there was an injured fledgling at the foot of the nest (200’ down!). His leg appeared injured. He could not fly but did stretch his wings out. I returned later in the evening with a licensed wildlife rescue agent who caught the young bird while his parents wheeled and screamed from above. The rescuer said the bird appeared very thin and the fact that it was covered in fleas seemed to lend further credence its health being poor. She took him home and has weighed him and is given him IV fluids. After which a dinner time of minnows and a safe rest.
