Nesting Diaries
5.48 PM Adult bald eagle perched beside former Osprey nest on top of power transmission pole.
6.30 AM Adult Bald Eagle standing at nest again _ before 6.44 AM sunrise. I saw an eagle here twice earlier this week. Are the pair of eagles overnighting at this (former) osprey nest?
7:20 AM Eagles still here. This morning I saw one adult perched on power pole south of pole with former Osprey nest and a second eagle, an immature, flew over me. https://ebird.org/checklist/S151999349

3:26 PM - No Osprey. One Bald Eagle on power pole beside power pole with former Osprey nest.
7:13 AM - Eagles continue to hang out - in Osprey nest. Ospreys have been unable to use their own nest this season. When I left 15-20 minutes later, this adult eagle was joined by a second adult Bald Eagle. They perched together on the power pole beside (south of) the pole with the osprey nest. I have only seen one Osprey here 4/03, 4/26, 4/30 and 5/5. Never two. In contrast, I have logged 15 ebird lists here, this year, with the pair of Bald Eagles. The first one was 3/2/23. 63°F and sunny. 6 AM sunrise
6.49 AM Two Bald eagles here again. No Osprey. One eagle at Osprey nest again. The other at power pole adjacent to (south of) pole with nest.
12:03 PM Osprey is finally back in the nest! - after Bald Eagles having been in the nest most of the month, including last night. Took quick photo as it started to rain.

Ongoing battle (?) this season for Osprey to use old Osprey nest. Pair of Bald Eagles continue to hangout in or beside old Osprey nest. 58°F, overcast and raining
8.30 AM - Two adult bald eagles are back in Osprey nest. They were here yesterday morning, but not last night. 58°F and overcast.
6:20 PM - no Bald Eagles in the nest, and no Ospreys.
7:20 AM - Together in osprey nest. Vocalized five times while I was here.
Osprey came and left while both eagles were in the Osprey/eagle nest. Eagles vocalized.
Ther are a lot of branches on the ground which suggest some nest construction or renovation.
Last photo - with both eagles in the nest - is how I am leaving them. Does not look like they are on eggs or have babies. Late in season for them, I think…
52°F and sunny. 6.17 AM sunrise.
6:52 AM - checked cell tower nest (before I am away for 4 days). No Osprey, and no Eagles.
6:07 PM Eagle at Osprey nest again. 62°F and sunny. (1.25 hours before 7:21 PM sunset)
7:45 Pair of Bald Eagles at the Osprey nest again. 3rd day out of 4 that I checked. Today, male was perched beside the nest and female was on the very next power transmission tower.
5 PM - Female Bald Eagle eating and/or feeding young? Male Bald Eagle perched beside nest and periodically vocalizing. The last time he vocalized, he flew to nest and chased female off. She left perched on next power transmission tower beside this one - north towards I-64. He is now eating in nest. Photos and audio clips are here:

Two ospreys arrived at nest one after the other. The first one sat in the nest briefly and then chased off the second one who made several approaches to be at the nest. The second one left. Two minutes later the one in the nest went off in the direction of the one that left. Another minute later, two were circling high above the nest. Nest is quite tall. None of the typical branch castoffs under the nest. Landscaper might have removed. 78°F and cloudy with some sun

5:56PM, 42°F and sun setting. 5:58 PM sunset. Black and white cat at silver fence beside lake.Empty nest. Some whitewash under the nest, but don’t think it’s from an Osprey. No branches under the nest yet.

6:35 AM For a first since the 6/20 loss of most of her nest, adult female is perched in nest, instead of beside it - AND a second adult Osprey is with her! (He’s back!) Rebuilding of nest appears to have occurred, as there are new castoffs on pavement under nest.
5:05 PM Adult female Osprey is still there, with virtually no nest left to speak of. She looks thin. Do Ospreys mourn loss? No sign of male.
6:35 AM. Adult female still perched beside remains of nest. 66°F
Female osprey perched beside remains of nest (on top of cell tower). Top half of nest was strewn across parking lot - presumably from Thursday's 5:30pm short wind/rain storm. Uploading three photos, including one of her looking down at almost half of her nest on the pavement. No sign of male osprey or chicks. Today: 71°F, 72% humidity, wind W at 3mph
